How I solved my DSL connection woes

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Backgrounder: My existing modem got busted and it was replaced by PLDT, my DSL provider. After the modem got replaced, time and again my DSL connection would stop working, even though the status lights would appear to be normal. It went on for about a week until I decided to tinker with the settings of the DSL modem itself.

So here is what I did:

Where Are The Local Tech Mags?

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

November is nearing its end, yet the only tech magazines I found in circulation right now is Gadgets and T3. Where’s Mobile Philippines, HWM, PC World, and the rest?

I noticed that in the past few months, less and less tech print magazines are being circulated in magazine shops. It’s quite a pity that the ones left are those that feature sexy and scantily-clad women in their cover page (making them look more like FHM). Totally no relation with technology, obviously. Let’s not talk about content, since the articles/reviews in these magazines, though numerous, are not really that in-depth.

Is the decline sales-related? I hope not, a lot of the good ones content-wise are those that are getting circulated less. That would be a shame.

Clik ProFolio for the MacBook

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

A few days ago I had the time and urge to clean up my MacBook, as it had some dust building up in between the installed Speck Clear Case and the MacBook’s outer shell.

Much to my horror, when I removed the clear case, I found out that my MacBook’s shiny white outer shell was riddled with small scratches! I guess the clear case protected the MacBook from getting dents or scratches whenever it got some bumps, but it did not prevent the scratches caused when it comes into contact with the MacBook itself.

I never placed the Speck case back to prevent any further damage, and instead shopped for a replacement. I found this case that has faux leather on the outside, and something like felt on the inside. It’s the ProFolio from Clik.

Now I feel that I don’t need the sleeve that came with my MacBook when I bought it. Another thing that is eliminated is the need for a wrist-rest protector, since the leather extends to the trackpad area.

I hope this won’t lead to scratches on the MacBook’s case, ever. Now what I need is a scratch remover similar to those used on iPods.

Please bear with me…

In changing the layout of the content in my website, some of the pictures were lost. :(

Time to look for that backup I did a few weeks ago…

How to remove IMGKULOT (VBS/Capiz-A) from your system

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Yesterday I helped a friend check his computer running WindowsXP. It has been continually displaying the follwing error:

Windows - No Disk Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf9c 4 75b6bf9c 75b6bf9c

As it turns out, his computer had a virus, quite a new one, which is called IMGKULOT, or VBS/Capiz-A. We were able to remove the virus manually. In case your computer gets infected with the same virus, here are the steps to do:
