So this is why the Apple Store went offline last Tuesday.

The lowest configuration uses the latest Core 2 Duo processor (3GHz L2 cache, 800MHz FSB) at 2.1GHz, while the BlackBook and the mid-range white MacBook uses the 2.4GHz model. Memory was also bumped up to 1Gb on the lowest configuration and 2GHz on the mid-range and BlackBook models. Hard disk size ranges from 120Gb, 160Gb, and 250Gb respectively.

This is one thing that I realized once I switched to a Mac. Apple has this set number of models, which they update on a regular basis — other computer companies tend to create one new model after the other even though only one component is changed.

I think I’d like Apple’s style better. It tends to reduce the confusion created when customers are faced with a lot of choices.

Are you a Mac newbie like me? Are you someone who have used a Mac for several years already, but still raring to learn about some more tips and tricks that may just be hiding under your nose? Then this podcast is for you.

Earlier today BenC, someone who I’ve been following since a few days ago in Twitter, sent me a direct message about a new podcast that he and another person, Data, released just today. It is primarily aimed at Mac switchers, and offers tips to ease the transition from another platform.

I just listened to it just moments ago, and I liked the segment discussing how the notion that Macs are more expensive than PCs is not true.

You can download the podcast from their blogsite, macswitched.blogspot.com.

Lower price, added storage!

The iPod shuffles got an upgrade. There are new models coming soon, which are double the capacity of those in the market at the moment. From 1Gb of storage, the new models carry 2Gb.

That would roughly be 480 songs, judging from the 1Gb model’s 240 song limit. Great for people on the go and would not care about watching videos on their media players.

Updates, Updates…

It’s been almost two weeks since I made an update to my blog. A lot of things came up these past few days that I barely had time to think about the things I usually do.

  1. I visited the doctor — yet again. I had this recurring case of Upper Respiratory Tract Infection and it’s been the third time in less than 4 months. It’s a good thing I wasn’t given antibiotics to treat it this time, which means it isn’t that bad, though I had a fever for several days prior to going to the hospital. Maybe the city pollution is rearing its ugly head on me.
  2. My wife’s experiencing a little snag at work — I had to put down a lot of things and be there for her while she’s feeling down. Things are looking a bit better now, but we have to do some adjustments and hope we can survive a few days of not having much time together.
  3. We had to attend to a minor problem that affected our preparations for an upcoming event late this year. I had to talk to our contact person at the venue regarding some items written in the contract. They have been resolved for the time being, hopefully things would continue to go well for the next few months.

However, this made me realize some things about me.

  1. There was a time when I thought that nothing can keep me away from my tech interests and gadgets. I guess my instincts as a father and family man proved me wrong.
  2. I cannot do a day-by-day tip bank for this blog. I don’t have the time anymore to focus on that, but the tips will still come nonetheless.
  3. A lot of ‘noise’ has been clouding my daily routine and I need to refocus and keep tabs on the more important things in life.

The posts will still come, but unfortunately they won’t come at a pace that is as fast as other bloggers do. A few posts a week, maybe, but definitely not everyday. I just hope that people would still find them interesting or helpful.
