Just press Ctrl+Space, type the name of the file or application you need, then press Enter. That’s how it is to be able to open a document, a file, or an application when you have Quicksilver loaded on your Mac.

I’ve heard about this from Leo Laporte’s MacBreak Weekly podcast a few weeks ago but I’ve only tried using it a few days ago. How convenient it is to have a utility like this!

It works similar to Spotlight: it creates a catalog of everything stored on your hard disk. However, instead of just presenting you with a list of search results, you have the option to immediately run an application (or a file’s associated application). This eliminates the need to open the Applications folder on your Mac, or the necessity of bringing an application to the dock so that it can easily be clicked if needed.

When you press Control+Space, either the Primer view or the Bezel view of the control panel for Quicksilver pops out:

A match is automatically displayed as you type in the letters.

I’ve already unloaded my dock with some applications I only use occasionally. I can always access it through Quicksilver now. Those that remain are the ones being used by my wife, who’s still quite uneasy with using utilities where you type the commands.

Try it!

It seems Apple wasn’t sleeping on its laurels after releasing the iPhone about a month ago.

Just a few hours ago they have unveiled the latest in their iMac line of computers. It’s the same, well, structurally speaking — single-piece screen and CPU with the iSight on top and connectors at the back. The difference with the latest generation of the iMac is that the casing is now made of aluminum and glass. In addition, it has a new keyboard whose keys, to confirm many articles from rumor sites, looks the same as that of the MacBooks!

Leopard is still not released as of this time so Tiger is the version that’s bundled with this machine. That wouldn’t be much of a problem for a lot of Mac users though. What makes news in this release of the iMac in terms of bundled software are the latest iLife and iWork suites.

Enough talk. Just take a look at how it looks and what’s inside. I must admit, I’m starting to like everything Apple.
