Just a while ago, I noticed that an email notification was sent to me from my blog, indicating a comment was made on one of my posts.

It was a message made by selaplana, from Pinoy Bloggers Directory, notifying me that Techiehenry has been added to their list of blogs.

Let me take the opportunity to thank everyone from Pinoy Bloggers Directory. You have just inspired me to place more meaningful (and hopefully useful to a lot of people) content in my blog.

I have this little list I made after a near-fatal illness made me fear for my life a couple of years back. I chanced upon this list a while ago and decided to put it here. I have been able to fulfill some of them already, but most of them I haven’t yet.

  1. Play competitive basketball (again)
  2. Speak in front of a large audience
  3. Buy my own mobile computer
  4. Buy my own car
  5. Get a house and lot
  6. A M.S. (at least) and a Ph.D. in a Computer Science-related study
  7. 2 kids (a boy and a girl)
  8. A dream wedding with my ideal wife
  9. My own domain and website
  10. Make a noted contribution to a major computer science project

I guess some people close to me will know which ones I’ve already had. Please bear in mind that I made this list when I was still a bachelor, so most are self-centered. Got some geeky entries there as well.

Trying Out Themes

You may have noticed that at times the way the blog looks would suddenly change. I’m trying out several Wordpress themes that I could use as basis for its new look.

Initially I’ve considered starting from scratch, but I realized it’s a very unrealistic option since I cannot allocate that much of a time for studying the nuances of theme building at the moment. So instead of reinventing the wheel, here I am browsing through the Wordpress Theme Browser for themes whose layouts are a close match to what I wanted my blog to look.

Last night, I was listening to FLOSS Weekly (Episode 16: Jeff Waugh) on my way home. Jeff Waugh, a former Canonical employee, was talking about the camaraderie of the Ubuntu development team. At one point he said that the team was creating a dance for every release they make, and that his favorite was the Badger dance (which was for the Breezy Badger release). Leo Laporte and Chris DiBona got curious about the dance that they looked for it on the internet and found a clip of the dance. The music was catchy, with a somewhat Techno feel to it (I was only able to hear it since it was just a podcast). What got my curiosity was that after checking out the link to the Badger dance, Leo was laughing! Upon reaching home I fired up my computer and pointed the browser to Google.

I got a link to it, and it was so hilarious to think that the development team was doing the dance on one of their parties. Imagine a bunch of geeks doing this:

Really funny.

Apparently, it’s been all over YouTube, much like the Numa Numa dance.

Here’s a link to the original page to the Badger dance.

Enjoy!

Found this in a Nokia phone’s User Guide:

dsc00032.JPG

I forgot to note the model name of the phone from where I got this, but apparently this warning is written in one form or another in several Nokia phones.

Could this be a ‘miss’ (in design/development/testing parlance, something that was not considered) during materials testing of early releases of some Nokia phones?

Judging from the first sentence (”…may contain…”), one could speculate that they used the material during the initial manufacturing of the phone. Then, after realizing that it causes allergies, they changed the materials they use.

Oops.
