This is what we’ve been up to since Saturday:

I bought a Playstation Portable (PSP) Value Pack for Php15,995 last Friday. Frankly I wanted a shiny new 4Gb iPod Nano to listen to while traveling to and from work, but when my wife suggested the PSP, and seeing that both have roughly the same price, I’ve foregone the size advantage of the Nano and considered the multiple features of the PSP.
The value pack includes (other than the unit itself) a 32Mb Memory Stick Duo, hand strap, soft pouch, battery, charging adapter, earphones, and a Php1000 Gift Certificate, which I used to buy a UMD game, Armored Core:Formula Front. Actual price of the game is at Php2099, so I still had to shell out extra money for that. If you have noticed, the value pack didn’t include a game disc and a USB cable.
Not letting go of my intention to use the PSP as a music player, we went to Glorietta the next day to see how much a 1Gb Memory Stick Duo (and a hard case to protect our investment) would cost. At Avant, a high-speed Memory Stick PRO Duo at 1Gb costs Php2900. Too expensive for our budget, methinks. So we just bought a Blackhorns polycarbonate crystal case worth Php550 (which also included a combination charger/USB data cable). We then went to the small cellphone shops located at third floor of Glorietta, the ones near Digital Exchange. Imagine our surprise when we learned that a 1Gb Memory Stick PRO Duo was sold there at Php1800 (you do the math for the price difference)! I went quite ambitious and aimed for 2Gb, but it was roughly double the price of the 1Gb unit, so I settled with my original choice. Afterwards we went to Data Blitz in Park Square to buy another game, for variety’s sake. We got Lumines II, a Tetris-like game ramped up with psychedelic colors and Techno-inspired music. Needless to say, my family had a great time playing with the PSP, though we weren’t really able to play with it for extended periods of time. My wife and I were too tired from the past few days of work.
Next mission for me after using the PSP as a music player? Try wardriving around Ortigas Center.
